music

Today I want to talk music- So is so much out there and everyone seems to have a their own choice in what they enjoy. But I am curious if mood affects the type of music you listen to or if you have a go to selection already downloaded?

Todays question(s):

  1. Pick a mood- happy, sad, depressed, lonely, having a bad day..- and name a song that is your ‘go to’ song.
  2. This one is more for me- I need a new playlist for running, any suggestions??

I think this might be a really fun topic. I am going to wait before I post my answer because I want to see what you guys come up with. If no one posts a comment, then I try to stimulate the conversation.

Running- Week 12

Monday– 5 miles

Running sprints slightly hung over was not ideal.. I’ll be honest, I had to stop once or twice but I finished. Happy 4th of July everyone!!

Tuesday: 3 miles

Ran three miles on the treadmill. With 60mph wind, we lost electricity shortly at the house. Luckily it came back on right away and I could finish my run. Wish I could have ran outside but glad I didn’t have to battle the wind. And really the run wasn’t horrible. I watched an episode on Netflix and that helped.

Johnny Pops

I get done with my run and come upstairs to find both my boys running around, bouncing off the walls. Come to find out my husband gave each of them Jonny Pops… the coffee flavored ones. Guess what the first ingredient is, that’s right cold pressed coffee. His response was he thought they were chocolate…

Running

Wednesday: 3 miles

Not a great run today. My hamstring is killing me and I had to slow my pace down a great deal just to make it through three miles. My goal was four miles with short sprints worked in but I’ll settle for three painful miles as long as my hamstring starts to feel better.

Thursday-Friday

Not looking good, my legs are tight and my hamstring isn’t wonderful. It does feel better but I’m not sure if I will be able to do my long run tomorrow..

Running2

Saturday: 10 Miles

I had a great run, but I’m definitely tight and will need to spend some time with the foam roller. I’m starting to understand fuel and think next week’s long run I will be better prepared. Loved running with lifetime Run! Such a great group of people and a wonderful community.

Hardass

Synopsis:

I cave in to no one. My hardass exterior is what makes me one of the hottest defense lawyers around. It’s why I’m the perfect guy to defend the notorious Bayou Butcher serial killer – and why I’ll come out on top.

Except this new associate I’ve hired is unnaturally skilled at putting chinks in my well-constructed armor. Her brazen talk and fiery attitude make me want to take control of her and silence her – in ways that will keep both of us busy till dawn. She drives me absolutely 100% crazy, but I need her for this case. I need her in my bed. I need her to let loose the man within me who fights with rage and loves with scorching desire…

Review:

I was asked to review this series but started with the second book because the reviews seemed to favor this one over the first book. This book/series was not for me. I had a hard time stomaching the characters and I don’t think I was the right audience for this book.

Caroline is a bit lose with her tongue, especially for being a lawyer. The opening scene has her arguing with her coworkers and not only does it scream unprofessional, she would be fired on the spot if this was real. Plus give a huge sexual harassment lawsuit while getting the door slammed on her way out.

I had a difficult time relating to Caroline’s character. Her mannerisms were extremely immature and like I mentioned, completely inappropriate. I felt like her character lacked a lot of class when it comes to being as educated as a lawyer is.

For example she says, “Yvonne giggled. I wanted to cunt-punt her.”

Wash is a strong alpha who has an immediate connection with Caroline. Despite workplace fraternizations, they have frequent sex. Wash’s character doesn’t have much of a strong personality and overall the emotional connection throughout the entire book was missing. Everything felt artificial.

The sex was hot, demanding and fun. But this plot has been done many times in the past and the book just didn’t stand up to expectations. I felt like character depth was missing as well as the plot being thought out. From the other reviews I have read, you either love this book or you hate it.

Throwback Thursday-Reckoning (The Breach #1)

throwback

Todays Throwback is Katheryn Avila’s Reckoning (The Breach #1). This book is a really short read (216 pages) and was first published on May 19, 2014

Reckoning

Synopsis:
After discovering suppressed psychic ability, Lexia struggles to keep her family safe, learning more than she bargained for along the way.

As demons and wraiths break their way through to the human world, she does her best to stay in control – unaware that the supernatural war dates back to before she was born.

Why I love this book:

Reckoning is a story filled with the supernatural, demons, psychics, reapers and much more; behind all of this is a fantastic forbidden love story. The characters were very well developed, with histories and connections that grew at a good pace, not rushed and not too long and drawn out. The supporting cast was a perfect fit to the characters, just enough to keep the story interesting without getting lost in their stories.

Review:
This story is complex, well written, and simply amazing! The author did an outstanding job keeping the reader constantly wondering what will happen next. The story at times was intense and always changing to where it was difficult to figure out where the author was taking you. The twists in the plot were unexpected and the ending caught me completely off guard! There aren’t many authors who take the risk and are able to pull off an ending like Katheryn Avila did! I can’t help but hope the story doesn’t end with this book!

The author created such a unique plot! The main character Lexia is extremely strong. She is smart and independent but fights everything she hears or knows. There is no easy solution when it comes to her or her problems. This book is about destiny and believing things happen for a reason- regardless if you want them to or want to accept the outcome. Hands down, this is a fantastic book full of action, love, and everything I between.

Like I said, the main character is named Lexia. After losing her family, she is sent to live with her eccentric aunt Karen and her two identical sons Adwin and Saxon. During the wake of her parents funeral, Lexia runs into Sarah. Sarah is someone no one else has been able to see. But her aunt Karen is able to see/talk with her and confronts Lexia with the fact that she is psychic- meaning she can see what others can’t and hear others thoughts. When Lexia’s parents come in ghost form to say goodbye, the author did a magnificent job creating an intense emotional scene. As the reader, I couldn’t help but get caught up in the emotional turmoil and wonder what it would be like to lose my own parents at such a young age.

The story continues at a quick pace and is broken up into three parts. I don’t want to give away too much information because you really should read this book! The ending of the story is terribly sad. Lexia has struggled her entire life to fit in but always felt alone. Overall, I was happily surprised by this book. I hope there is a sequel!

Quotes:

“I shouldn’t even exist. Neither should they. What’s the difference between destroying me and destroying them?” – Lexia Graham

Running Hats, Help Please?

I am in need of some advice. I have decided I need to invest in a running hat but I just don’t know which one to buy. I have tried going to stores to look at some, but I just haven’t really liked the style/color I have seen. I would like to buy one this week because the heat and sun is a bit much and the glare from the sun messes with my concentration.

Are there any running hats you love or would recommend?

Thanks for your help!!!

Tuesday Talk- 4th of July

Tuesday Talks

Every Tuesday I will try to engage you in a question/topic/idea. You are welcome to write in with a suggestion you want to share or maybe talk about next Tuesday. My response is not right for everyone but I am hoping together we can generate some great conversation. And as always, I would love to hear from you on this topic or any topic out there!

Hi everyone, long time no see 🙂 I thought I would roll back into our weekly discussion with something simple and easy- 4th of July.

There are so many traditions out there from fireworks to barbecue to boating… You name it, someones is probably doing it.

My question for the week is:

  1. What did you do for the 4th of July?
  2. Do you have any traditions that you normally enjoy doing on the 4th of July?
  3. Do you feel there are cliches- like having to grill for example- when it comes to this particular holiday?

Feel free to answer any or all questions. Again, you can email me your response if you would rather post anonymously or if your response is lengthy.

For me, we had my parents over and my kids played in the backyard- swimming, playing with the sprinkler, bubbles- all the fun kid stuff. We grilled hamburgers and had some drinks.

As far as traditions go, we don’t have any yet. When I was younger, we used to have one but not anymore. I think I am still trying to figure out what my kids might enjoy and waiting until they get a little older.

As far as cliches- I don’t know why this bugs me but I feel like there is pressure to wear the American Flag. I understand this is our Independence Day, but I don’t feel like I need to wear the flag on my swimsuit or on my clothes/car/house for me to be patriotic. I just feel like the flag should not be worn, it should hang off a pole.

Running- Week 11

Running

Monday: 4 Miles

Fantastic run!! I ran around my neighborhood again, this time without pushing my son. The only thing is my pace is off. I needed to run 11:12 miles and I was a bit too fast. I know I need to slow it down and I have to make myself do it!

The hills I ran were crazy big! It’s strange how you look at things differently while running then you do when you are driving in your car.

But even though this was a challenging run, it was highly rewarding because I was able to do it! I finished my run, I ran the entire time, and I stayed close to the pace I needed to. Overall, a successful run!

RunningTuesday: 3 Miles

Nice run with Lifetime Run Club tonight. I cut my run short and had some time to think. Today has been a good day and it was nice to end it on an easy run 🙂

Do you enjoy running with others or by yourself?

RunningWednesday: 4 Miles

So now that I know what Fartleks are and I can’t say they are my favorite. We did a one mile warm up, two miles of random point sprints where the goal was to get your heart rate from zone one to three and back again as quickly as possible. Then finishing with a one mile cool down-zone one.

It was a hard workout and I’m glad it’s done. The group that showed up was fun and I ran with a new person. I think this is my favorite thing about this group- running with other people and getting to know them. I’m sure glad tomorrow is my off day 🙂

Thursday-Friday: Off

Thursday was scheduled as a rest day but I took Friday as well. I know I shouldn’t have missed my run but there was just too much to do. I accepted a teaching position and am going back to work. Crazy right!

So the chaos started with needing to find daycare that could support my son who has special needs. Which is actually a lot more complicated than it sounds. It had to be in our current school district for him to continue to receive services and we wanted both boys to stay together. Not an easy task. We looked at some really scary places but found one we loved! Thank God!!

Runnig5Saturday: 9 miles

What a great run this morning!! The weather was perfect and so was the conversation. My friends and I met up with lifetime Running group for a supported long run. It was nice because they provided water and Gatorade. Plus we were able to run with some fun and amazing people!

I need to start adding fuel with my longer runs but the Gatorade helped with the heat. I could feel my thighs start to cramp around mile 6, but they didn’t get bad until mile 8. Around mile 7 I could tell I was losing energy and wish I had something to eat.

Synopsis:
Manwhore. That’s what the board of directors-and the tabloids-thinks of billionaire bachelor Reese Crane. Ordinarily he couldn’t care less, but his playboy past is preventing the board from naming him CEO of Crane Hotels. Nothing-and no one-will keep him from his life’s legacy. They want a settled man to lead the company? Then that’s exactly what he’ll give them.

Merina Van Heusen will do anything to get her parents’ funky boutique hotel back-even marry cold-as-ice-but-sexy-as-hell Reese Crane. It’s a simple business contract-six months of marriage, absolute secrecy, and the Van Heusen is all hers again. But when sparks fly between them, their passion quickly moves from the boardroom to the bedroom. And soon Merina is living her worst nightmare: falling in love with her husband

Review:

You are probably thinking the plot- an attractive alpha billionaire needing a fake marriage to get what he wants- has been done already. And you are right, this kind of plot has been done many times before. But it takes a gifted author to be able to tell the story again without it becoming boring. I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t want to put the book down. This book was exciting, fun, flirtatious, full of sexual tension, and the banter between the characters was fantastic! I don’t think you will be disappointed in this book.

Merina is feisty and sometimes a bit careless. But she means well and is a fun character to read about. She is strong but also vulnerable.

I feel so bad for her in the beginning. Because of the secrets her parents kept from her about their financial difficulties, everything changes for her and she loses everything she has come to love. But Merina doesn’t take the news of new ownership of her beloved hotel lightly. No, she is a firecracker when it comes to confrontation and fighting for what she believes in. I couldn’t stop smiling as I read the scene where she confronts Reese for the first time. The author did a perfect job of describing the attraction she has for him but not letting it derail her opinions or dreams.

Reese is the strong, confident, and very sexual kind of man. His flaws are in abundance yet he is extremely charming and you just want to love him or maybe hug him. To put things simply, Reese has been hurt and refuses to put himself in a situation where that could happen again. Although he sleeps around.. A lot… He knows close to nothing about romance, women (beyond sexually), and relationships. It was fun watching Reese flounder trying to figure Merina out and their ‘relationship’.

The fake marriage is a whirlwind of emotions and absolutely fantastic! In many ways I felt almost giddy over Reese’s flirtatious behavior. I found myself laughing and smiling often. But I also found myself really feeling for Merina and Reese. The struggles they faced were heartbreaking. This is one of those books you fall for the characters, for their love story, and when they shatter into tiny broken pieces, you do too.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. The characters are well developed and Merina and Reese fit well together. This isn’t the type of book full of twists and the unexpected. In the general sense, you probably already know how things will end. But the avenue the author took and the characteristics of Merina and Reese, makes this story worth reading. Besides, sometimes it is nice to read a book that easy, light, and doesn’t make you go crazy with everything that is happening. I recommend this book for anyone looking to read about a sexy billionaire, lots of chemistry, and a fun love story!
