Charley Davidson is a part-time private investigator and full-time grim reaper. Meaning, she sees dead people. Really. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light.” But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (like murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an entity who has been following her all her life…and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely. But what does he want with Charley? And why can’t she seem to resist him? And what does she have to lose by giving in?

Wow! This book was amazing. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was not disappointed.

This is the first installment of the Charley Davidson series. Charley’s character isn’t so much complicated as she is relatable. Throughout the book Charley struggles with others accepting who she is and the mistakes she has made. Charley is a strong, brave, and witty character. At times her wit can be over the top and not appropriate but I think she uses it as more to flirt and as a defense mechanism.

Charley is a grim reaper who not only helps the dead cross over, but she is also a private investigator and consults for the police- mainly her uncle. When three dead layers show up and refuse to cross over until there family has closure, she is forced to work with a skeptical but flirtatiously attractive Garrett Swopes.

The mystery of the investigation is occasionally interrupted with Charley’s complicated love interests. Throughout the book, Charley and Garrett share a flirtatious banter that could possibly lead to more if it wasn’t for the character “Bad” showing up in what would appear to be an act of jealousy. All the while, Charley is having nightly romantic visits in her dream where where she is left with mind shattering orgasims from a mysterious being. This being she discovers to be Reyes Farrows and is also connected to who she refers to as “Bad”.

This book is a mix of mystery, romance, and a splash of comedy. The author did a nice job creating an entertaining plot that was easy to read. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next installment in the series.
