Review: (Spoiler Alert)
This book allowed the reader to look into Anita’s romantic life. I’m not sure how I feel about Jean-Claude. This book had me going back and forth between liking him and hating him. And then there is Richard… Looks like a love triangle to me. This book is a great example on how complicated Anita makes things. She is so stubborn sometimes it drives me crazy! But I still enjoy her fierce nature 🙂
In this book, Anita is hired by the cops to help find a rouge vampire or is it vampires who are killing people. The cops need answers fast and Anita must go to Jean-Claude for help. What he does really upsets me. Because he is so fixed on Anita accepting her role as his human servant, he puts her into a situation that is not only dangerous but almost deadly. As always, Anita comes out alive but with scratches, another cross burn, and one less shirt. Throughout the book, Jean-Claude goes from acts of jealousy to being completely indifferent, and then goes into fits of wanting to protect her. He is so hot and cold. Yet we find out he is in love with her.
Anita is introduced to a Richard Zeeman- a teacher who also shares a lot in common with Anita. Anita reluctantly accepts a date with Richard, even though they flirt and have good chemistry. Unfortunately, in an act to save Anita’s life, Richard hands Anita over to Jean-Claude who gives her the third mark. Anita is ridiculously upset that she ends up betraying Jean-Claude by giving away his location to Mr. Oliver. She was going to die if she wasn’t given the third mark.
Edward shows up gain in this book. At first he threatens Anita I. Order to find out who and where the vampire master of the city lives. When she doesn’t give it to him and it is clear he will torture her for the information, Edward isn’t able to go threw it. It’s hard to tell how he feels about Anita but I think it is a safe bet to say she is his only friend and he doesn’t want to lose her.
By the end of the book. Anita finds out who is lead vampire is who is killing humans. She also discovers this vampire is in cahoots with Mr. Oliver. Anita fell right into there plan to discover who the master of the city is and then unleash all the vampires to kill humans so the vampire rights would be revoked. Luckily Edward is in town and available to help.
The fight is a bloody mess. Another vampire completes all four marks, making Anita his human servant. Because Anita is a necromancer, she still gets to keep her free will. This ultimately saves Jean-Claude from Mr. Oliver but also cancels out Jean-Claude’s previous human servants marks. This is also when Anita discovers Richard is a werewolf- ext in line to be pack leader to be exact. In the end, Anita admits to being in love with Jean-Claude but ends up dating Rickard. So confusing…
