Harold Gaynor offers Anita Blake a million dollars to raise a 300-year-old zombie. Knowing it means a human sacrifice will be necessary, Anita turns him down. But when dead bodies start turning up, she realizes that someone else has raised Harold’s zombie–and that the zombie is a killer. Anita pits her power against the zombie and the voodoo priestess who controls it.
In The Laughing Corpse Anita will learn that there are some secrets better left buried-and some people better off dead…
Review: (Spoiler Alert)
I love this book. The plot is creative and creepy! I once again love how Anita isn’t perfect but she has great attitude. Pour Jaun-Claude. Does he ever have his hands full with Anita. Can’t wait to read the next book!
Anita’s morals get her into trouble in this book. She is brought in by the cops to look over a crime scene. The father and mother were slaughtered, ripped apart by the killers hands. But Anita doesn’t know what species the killer is. It’s not vampire or shape shifter. To get answers, Anita goes to see Dominga. Dominga is the voodoo queen and one very scary person. While there, Anita learns Dominga has discovered a way to capture a dead persons soul and put it back into a zombie. Anita is disgusted with the inhumanity of this and vows to stop Dominga even if that means killing her. Anita is offered a job to raise the dead but she refuses because it involves a human sacrifice.
In this book, Anita gets beat up more than a handful of times. She ends up unwillingly forced into performing a human sacrifice, kills all the bad guys, learns more about herself, and barely survives. Wow, I love this book!
